If you're new to dog breeding, the art of canine artificial insemination is an important skill to learn.
All experienced breeders know there will invariably be that one crucial time when a natural mating simply can't be accomplished and a canine artificial insemination is the only option to ensure a pregnancy.
At that moment, there are four choices.
1. Call the Vet to do the A.I.- if this situation has occurred during office hours and not on a week-end or a holiday, and IF he or she is skilled in the procedure. Not all Veterinarians want to do canine artificial inseminations.
2. Frantically phone around for an acquaintance from the dog club who might know how to do the procedure.
3. Forget the breeding.
4. Get the correct equipment to-gether and do it yourself.

It's pretty obvious that the logical choice should be # 4.

It is NOT TRUE that a dog or bitch will lose their natural mating instinct or ability by doing a canine artificial insemination.

It is NOT TRUE that you must have a teaser bitch available to do a canine artificial insemination. Early handling and training of a stud dog makes it possible to ‘collect’ him any time you choose.

Did you know that:

A stud dog should be 'emptied out' or collected monthly, in order to have a healthy reproductive system.

Toy breed male pups often can reproduce as young as 7 months of age?
