My First Artificial Insemination!I had never seen the procedure done and all I knew was that the borrowed male was desperately trying to approach our bitch to mate her and she was going to kill him if he got within striking range! In desperation we tied her to the fence and while my husband held the male safely back with a leash, I did the artificial insemination. I won't go into the details, but it involved a turkey baster, a clean glass and a lot of perspiration and shaking hands! Afterwards we crated them both and then collapsed on the floor of the living room, exhausted by the ordeal. I vowed then and there that I would find an 'expert' in this skill and learn how to do an Artificial Insemination correctly. My expert was not a Veterinarian, but a long-time breeder, who taught me well. I was not happy with the equipment she used, supplied from her Veterinarian's clinic. It was large and cumbersome, so I used my nursing knowledge and devised my own equipment that was simple, always clean or sterile, and inexpensive. I never again had to wash, disinfect and dry every bit of equipment used and then hope everything was sterile or clean enough to protect my males as well as the females the next time it was used. My equipment has always been all disposable! This is exactly what I have put into the kits I have available for you, the breeder. You may never need or want to use my artificial insemination equipment, but having it on hand 'just in case' is far superior to a turkey baster and a water glass!
