How to do a Semen Collection
If you're new to dog breeding, the art of semen collection and artificial insemination are important skills to learn.
All experienced breeders know there will invariably be that one crucial time when a natural mating simply can't be accomplished and collection and artificial insemination are the only options to ensure a pregnancy.
At that moment, there are four choices.
1. Call the Vet to do the A.I.- if this situation has occurred during office hours and not on a week-end or a holiday, and IF he or she is skilled in the procedure. Not all Veterinarians want to do artificial inseminations.
2. Frantically phone around for an acquaintance from the dog club who might know how to do the procedure.
3. Forget the breeding.
4. Get the correct equipment -see my AI kits and learn to do it yourself.
It's pretty obvious that the logical choice should be # 4.
